Burnley pushed back in the second half, but Enzo Fernández sealed the victory with an 88th-minute late strike. After this week, Chelsea stay in the top three for now, while Burnley remain in 17th position going into the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Managerial Quotes

Burnley (Scott Parker)

For us, it comes down to control and courageControl in how we play and react in every moment, and the courage to step forward and back ourselves against the champions… We’ll need to be disciplined and composed, and keep calm in certain moments. And we’ll need to be brave and believe in each other, which is something this squad has in abundance.

Analytical note:
Scott Parker shifted the focus of his players to staying calm, working as a team, and having courage. He motivated the players and fans, reminding everyone that the squad has belief in each other. That’s a positive asset that the team already has. However, he didn’t give much detail about the game itself or how the team can improve.

Chelsea (Enzo Maresca)

“It was a tough game for many reasons…After the international break, a 12 o’clock kick off, this type of pitch, we also need to manage players, so it was a very tricky game… But the way the players competed, again another clean sheet – and I don’t think they had just one important chance.”

Analytical note:
After Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Burnley, Enzo Maresca said the game was tough because of things like the team just coming back from the international break, a midday kickoff, the pitch, and managing players. He praised the players for competing hard, nevertheless, and managing a clean sheet, which was a big positive. His closing remarks were more about effort than detailed analysis.

Managerial Quotes

Bournemouth (Andoni Iraola)

“We really should not concede two goals in this game. It’s not a game where you should be conceding two goals. We conceded from two crosses. From very little, we conceded two goals, and it cost us a lot.”

Analytical note:
Andoni Iraola sounded frustrated after the game, pointing out that Bournemouth shouldn’t have let in two goals. Both came from crosses, and he felt they were avoidable mistakes that ended up costing the team its possible win. His words show he’s holding the team accountable, but they come across more as raw frustration than a clear plan to fix things.

West Ham United (Nuno Espírito Santo)

“This game is going to be the tool, the main tool, for us to move forward. Now we’re going to analyse it. It’s all about knowing the players better, trying to take the right decisions at the right moment.”

Analytical note:
Nuno Espírito Santo sees the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth as a chance to learn and improve. He called the game “the main tool” to help the team learn from their mistakes and move forward, focusing on understanding his players better and making smarter decisions at the right moments. His take on this game was a positive one that shows he’s more interested in learning from the match than pointing out the mistakes of the players.

Managerial Quotes

Brighton and Hove Albion (Fabian Hürzeler)

“I think we were the much better team through the whole game…” really proud” to be working at Brighton: “Being a head coach here is a privilege. I am really proud to work with great leaders, great personalities of players, and in a really great culture…This is a great group that tries for togetherness and to get better every day, no matter the circumstances and adversities.”

Analytical note:
In his 50th in charge of Brighton, the head coach beamed with joy and appreciation for how hard the players had worked every day for their victory.

Brentford (Keith Andrews)

“There are elements where I wasn’t entirely happy with bits with the ball, and we gave it back too easily. Defensively, we were pretty solid and restricted them to very little, and then the game changed on that equaliser. If we walked away with a 2-2 [scoreline], we would have thought it was a solid away performance. We dust ourselves down, and we go again next week, but unfortunately, the game can bite you.”

Analytical note:
Andrews reflected that his players had defended well throughout the game and didn’t give opponents many chances to concede, but they struggled with possessing the ball and gave it away too easily. He also highlighted how the equalizer changed the game, and while a 2-2 draw would have felt decent, the game showed there’s room for improvement. Still, the team is ready to shake it off and try again next week.

The win with three points lifts Fulham to 14th position in the Premier League table, while Sunderland’s five-game unbeaten strike comes to an end, dropping them to sixth position.

Managerial Quotes

Fulham (Marco Silva)

It’s something that we all should enjoy if you are a Fulham fan or not, but if you are a Premier League fan, you have these guys so many years in this country scoring goals and scoring goals.”

Analytical note:
Silva appreciated his team’s performance in his closing remarks by expressing that even fans of other clubs admire Fulham players’ consistency and scoring abilities. He framed the team’s victory as a celebration of football, highlighting both their lasting presence and impact in the Premier League.

Sunderland (Régis Le Bris)

First of all we faced a good team, as expected because they were really good a few weeks ago against Arsenal for example so it was really clear that they have this offensive threat, this ability to create chances, to be dominant with the ball and I think we managed just OK this part during the first half, we are not proactive enough to change, shift the momentum but we tried during the half time to change this part, we had our opportunity I think just during the first part of the second half I think we felt that it was possible to change something but it wasn’t enough.”

Analytical note:
Sunderland’s coach sounded defensive in his closing remarks and admitted that his team was up against a very strong opponent who had shown real attacking threats in recent games, like against Arsenal. He rightly also commented that in the first half, his team didn’t do enough to take control or change the flow of the game. They tried to adjust at halftime and saw a chance to turn things around early in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to make a real impact.

Managerial Quotes

Liverpool (Arne Slot)

The first half hour, I think the players did what I was hoping for. Played with energy and created chances to go a goal up. The set piece changed the momentum and the goal. I tried to make a couple of changes and adjustments, but they didn’t work out the way I wanted. It’s always my responsibility.

Analytical note:
The coach reflected after the match that his team had started the game well, playing with good spirits, confidence, and creating chances just as they had been instructed. But after the stoppage time, the momentum of the game changed, and he admitted to having tried different strategies during the play, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out in their favor this time. In the end, he takes the blame for it.

Nottingham Forest (Sean Dyche)

I’m so pleased for the players, they have taken on a lot since we’ve been here, and we’ve demanded a lot from them in many different ways. I’ve said to them after the game that we can only guide them. The commitment to the cause and to the shirt was all on display today, and the quality, of course, which you need. You don’t win by luck here. The will and demand, the team, and the organisation are massively important in these games. They’ve shown that in abundance, and when we’ve needed the quality, they’ve delivered. You aren’t likely to come here and dominate the ball, so without it, you have to be diligent, and I thought we were super diligent, from our shape to our organization. Our defenders were making blocks, Matz was looking confident in goal, and we looked full of confidence. I do believe there is quality here, and in the moments of truth, can you make that pass or find that finish, and we certainly did today.

Analytical note:
The manager expressed openly how he’s proud of his team and the efforts they had put in this game. He praised his players for handling tough instructions and staying organized. He further appreciated how the players had shown their commitment throughout the game. Even without much of the possession, their unity and confident goalkeeping had the game under their control. He made it clear that this win wasn’t about luck or chance, but it was earned through every individual player’s hard work, discipline, and showing quality at the right moments. He clearly trusts his squad’s talent, especially with the passes and finishes they produced when it really mattered.

Sean Dyche, Forest’s manager, smiling and celebrating during a match.

  • After Chelsea in October 2005 (4-1), West Ham in August 2015 (3-0), and Man City in February 2021 (4-1), Nottingham Forest was just the fourth visiting team to win a Premier League match at Anfield by a margin of 3+ goals.
  • For the first time since 1962–1963 and 1963–1964, Nottingham Forest has defeated Liverpool on the road in consecutive league seasons. Prior to 2024–2025, they have only won one of their thirty league trips to Anfield.

Managerial Quotes

Wolverhampton Wanderers (Rob Edwards)

I’m obviously really disappointed with the result. The effort was there, but we can still improve in moments, that’s for sure… We all want a magic wand, none of us has got it, the only way we’ll work things out is by sticking together.”

Analytical note: Wolves’ debut manager’s remarks calm down the fans as he continues his closing remarks. He assured that even though everyone is upset, he’s staying calm and confident. He praised Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence for giving their best this season and made it clear that the team is sticking to their own style. It’s his way of saying that things may not be perfect right now, but there’s no need to worry, and they believe in their plan.

Crystal Palace (Oliver Glasner)

” The players are fit. We have a great mood, we have great energy in the group, so I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t continue this success. It’s up to us – it’s our responsibility.”

Analytical note: Glasner beamed confidently upon his team’s (2-0) win over Wolves. He addressed the crowd, saying that his players are in good shape and the team has high morale at this point. They believe nothing is stopping them from moving forward in the season with the same energy. He also made it clear that staying successful depends on the team staying focused and taking responsibility for their performances.

Did you know?

  • Wolves have earned only 2 points in their first 12 Premier League games, which is one of the worst starts ever in the history of the highest level of football in a country. However, two teams have done worse at this stage. One is of Manchester United in 1930–31, who had 0 points, and Sheffield United(The Blades) in 2020–21, who had 1 point.
  • Wolves have dropped their last five Premier League games, and each of the previous three has had a different manager (Pereira, Collins, Edwards). They are the only team since team Everton in January/February 2022 to lose three straight games under different managers (Benitez, Ferguson, Lampard).

Managerial Quotes

Newcastle United (Eddie Howe)

To beat Man City should give us the confidence we need. We need to try and use this result as a turning point in our season, both home and away, to get a result.

Analytical note:
The manager sounded optimistic after their hard-earned victory over City and reflected on the win, saying that beating Manchester City should give the team a big confidence boost. And the challenge now is to take that energy into the rest of the season, at home and away, and use it to get more good results. It’s about turning one big win into momentum for what’s ahead.

Manchester City (Pep Guardiola)

Newcastle is a top side, top players, top manager, so unfortunately, tonight we could not maintain the momentum that we had. It was an entertaining game, we both had chances, and then there was a momentum shift, and ultimately we couldn’t win.”

Analytical note:

Managerial Quotes

Leeds United (Daniel Farke)

We concede a few too many from our left side, and this shouldn’t happen. So, 47th minute, we’re not tired, it was a dead-ball situation, we should have organized better instead of being overplayed and allowing a cutback situation.

Analytical note:
He said they keep giving away goals from the left side, and it shouldn’t be happening. In the 47th minute, the players weren’t even tired. It was a dead-ball moment, so they should have been organized and ready. Instead, they got caught out too easily and allowed a simple cutback that led to the goal.

Aston Villa (Unai Emery)

“After we played away five matches, we only won one match, against Tottenham, (the other) four matches, we drew two, and we lost two. And today was the challenge, if we were able to get the average.”

The coach reflected on the team’s series of difficult away matches, highlighting that the team managed only one win out of five, with two draws and two losses. He explained the challenges that players were facing all this time before this match and marked the current game as a critical test for the players.

Managerial Quotes

Arsenal (Mikel Arteta)

“It’s a very special day for us. We knew the importance of the match and what it meant to our people. To give them that joy with our performance, the hunger, and the atmosphere created at the stadium. It’s a beautiful day.”

Tottenham Hotspur (Thomas Frank)

Analytical note:
Frank admitted how the team let the fans down and reminded everyone they’re still rebuilding after ending last season in 17th. They want to move forward, but at the same time, he acknowledged that nothing in today’s game reflected that effort.

Managerial Quotes

Manchester United (Ruben Amorim)

Really frustrated, like any other person that supports Man Utd. The way we started the game, the way we didn’t understand how we should play against 10 men.

Analytical note: Just like any Man Utd fan, the coach too expressed straightforward frustration over the team’s performance. He called out the players for starting off the game poorly, even when they had a player advantage. He also admitted that his team didn’t improvise the strategy to capitalize on this benefit.

Everton (David Moyes)

“I’m incredibly proud of the players and the fans… We got over the line with 10 men. We started the ball brilliantly, got the sending off, and the game changed. But we showed resilience. Manchester United are in pretty good form at the moment, so it was never going to be an easy game. Good goalkeeping when we needed it. The boys were brave.”

Analytical note: Everton’s head coach expressed his appreciation for the players after the match, which became his first win as a visiting coach at Old Trafford in the Premier League after 18 unsuccessful attempts. He emphasized the team’s resilience, noting the challenge of securing victory even after being reduced to 10 men. However, he acknowledged how the team was affected by the red card to one of the players, but still managed to play strongly and improvise to fill the gap, and showed courage under immense pressure.
