The first fixture of the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Bangladesh was held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

This series marked an important return to bilateral ODI competition between the two sides after several years without a full ODI series.

The gap in an ODI series between two countries was caused by a mix of security concerns and geopolitical tensions.

The three-match ODI series in Mirpur started on March 11, 2026. The first match of the series turned into a dominant performance by Bangladesh.

How Did This Match Change Things for Bangladesh?

This was an important start for Bangladesh in the ODI series for several reasons.

  • It was their first ODI series since late 2025, and the team wanted to prove they could dominate at home.
  • The victory was one of Bangladesh’s biggest wins against Pakistan in ODI history, measured by remaining wickets and balls.
  • The match showcased the rise of new Bangladeshi talents such as Nahid Rana and Tanzid Hasan, who played key roles in dismantling Pakistan and completing a comfortable chase.

First Innings: Pakistan’s Batting

Pakistan batted first after Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the toss and opted to field.

Bangladesh’s bowlers took full advantage of the Mirpur pitch and kept constant pressure on the Pakistani batters.

On the other side, Team Pakistan struggled to build stable partnerships throughout the innings, and most of the team’s batting lineup failed to reach double digits.

Innings Summary

This is how the innings unfolded for Pakistan:

Powerplay Overs (1 to 10)

Pakistan’s openers, Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat, started cautiously and built a 41-run opening partnership.

Farhan looked comfortable early and played some good strokes through the offside.

However, on the final ball of the power play over, he attempted another attacking shot, but got dismissed instead after he had scored 27 runs off 38 balls.

Farhan’s early dismissal shifted momentum towards Bangladesh as Pakistan ended the powerplay with 41/1.

Middle Overs (11 to 30)

Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated the middle overs.

Fast bowler Nahid Rana dismissed key batsmen that included Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha in quick succession.

At one stage, the team had lost six wickets for just 70 runs, which added immense pressure on Team Pak.

Regardless of this fall of wickets, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf tried to stabilize the innings with a determined knock of 37 runs off 47 balls, which included six boundaries and one six, but he could not get a supporting partnership from the other end.

Death Overs (31 to 50)

Pakistan never truly reached the death overs in this match.

After dismissal of continuous wickets by Bangladesh’s bowlers, the visitors were bowled out for 114 runs in 30.4 overs, well short of a competitive ODI total.

Apart from Nahid Rana’s five-wicket haul, Mehidy Hasan Miraz also played a major role, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs and tightening the pressure in the middle overs.

Top Scorer of the innings

The top scorer for Pakistan was Faheem Ashraf, and opener Sahibzada Farhan, who contributed 27 runs off 38 balls.

Bangladesh’s Bowling Efforts

Bangladesh’s bowling performance was outstanding. The real star of the innings was Bangladesh’s fast bowler Nahid Rana, who produced a sensational bowling spell of 5/24. That dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup with pace and accuracy.

Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz supported him brilliantly with 3 wickets, while the rest of the bowling attack maintained pressure and prevented Pakistan from building any partnerships.

This collective effort ensured that team Pakistan was restricted to a very minimal total.

Second Innings: Bangladesh’s Chase

Chasing a target of 115 runs, Bangladesh came out with an aggressive approach.

The Bangladeshi openers attacked the Pakistani bowlers from the start, which ensured that the required run rate was never an issue.

Bangladesh comfortably reached the target of 115 in just 15.1 overs, which became one of their most dominant ODI chases against Pakistan.

Innings Summary

Here’s how Bangladesh completed the chase.

Powerplay Overs (1 to 10)

Bangladesh started positively with openers Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan.

Although Saif Hassan was dismissed early, the scoring rate remained high as Tanzid Hasan played aggressive strokes all around the ground.

Bangladesh crossed the halfway mark of the target within the power play, keeping their chase under control.

Middle Overs (11 to 20)

The chase became even easier when Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Tanzid Hasan at the crease.

Shanto played a supporting role, rotating strike and hitting boundaries when possible. The pair added valuable runs quickly and brought Bangladesh very close to victory.

Tanzid Hasan played the match-winning knock, scoring 67 runs off just 42 balls.

Death Overs

Bangladesh did not need the death overs.

After Shanto’s dismissal for 27 runs, Litton Das came to the crease and finished the match calmly.

Bangladesh reached the winning total in 15.1 overs, sealing the game with a wide ball that helped them reach 115 runs.

Bangladesh’s Top Scorer

The hero of the chase was Tanzid Hasan, as his innings included 7 boundaries and 5 sixes, and he dominated Pakistan’s bowling attack from start to finish.

His aggressive batting ensured Bangladesh chased down the target quickly and comfortably.

What Does This Result Mean for Both Teams?

This convincing victory gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The hosts will be full of confidence heading into the second ODI, especially after such a dominant performance with both bat and ball.

For Pakistan, the match was a disappointing start to the series. Their batting collapse and inability to build partnerships were major concerns, and they will need significant improvement to bounce back in the remaining matches.
