The Pakistan Super League (PSL) witnessed one of its biggest changes ever! A major auction at the Lahore Expo Center announced a new owner to the PSL fraternity.

A name that is popular in tech and media companies, Walee Technologies, took over the team that was previously known as the Multan Sultans. It’s not just about money around the team, but the entire identity of Multan Sultans is set for a transformation.

A Record-Breaking Bid

The auction got turned into a real and thrilling war of bids. The Bidding began at Rs. 182 crore, and the race quickly heated up. Five different groups competed to buy the team.

In the end, Walee Technologies, led by CEO Ahsan Tahir, won with a huge bid of Rs. 245 crore (Rs. 2.45 billion). This is officially the highest bid ever made for a franchise in PSL history.

To put it in perspective, that’s about $8.8 million. This record-breaking deal shows just how much the PSL brand has grown and how much trust investors have in the future of Pakistan cricket.

Multan Sultans Are Now Team Rawalpindi!

After winning the bid, CEO Ahsan Tahir confirmed that the team “Multan Sultan”, which started back in 2017, would no longer represent Multan; instead, the franchise is moving to its hometown, Rawalpindi, referring to the owners’ childhood ties with the city. This was the biggest shock of the night for both fans and PSL.

However, the “Pindi Boys” finally have their own team. Moreover, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also expressed his take on this change, commenting that it was bittersweet to see the Multan name go, but he added that the league must respect the vision of its new owners.

“I have an affection for Multan Sultans. When he [Ahsan] announced changing the city name, my heart got sad because it is our brand and we will now definitely think about its future. But, instructing someone who is spending 2.45 billion rupees to keep or let go of Multan Sultans was not possible. I cannot do anything about it.” – PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi

Why the Change?

Fans might be wondering why the team was part of the auction in the first place. The reason is that its previous owner of seven years, Ali Khan Tareen, chose not to renew his contract after his ongoing disagreements with the PCB over the League’s management. Even though he was at the auction, he didn’t bid. He said his heart is still with South Punjab, and he’ll wait for the right time to come back.

What’s Next for the Squad?

With the ownership settled, all eyes are now on the PSL 11 Player Auction, which is scheduled to take place this Wednesday. This is where the new Rawalpindi team will build its roster.

Fans are already having some nerve-racking questions up their sleeves, such as: Will the stars like Mohammad Rizwan remain the face of the new Pindi franchise? Or how will the management team change?

As we look toward the 2026 season, the PSL is expanding to eight teams, including new entries from Sialkot and Hyderabad. With a record-breaking owner and a new home city, the upcoming season is set to be the biggest one yet.
