Match Summary

The third Premier League victory of the season was claimed by Leeds United when West Ham United were beaten (2-1) at Elland Road. With it, the Hammers’ wait for their first win extended, which they desperately desired. The events of the day started unfolding within the first 15 minutes of the encounter, with the first goal scored by Brenden Aaronson. Shortly after, Joe Rodon jumped higher than everyone else and took a close-range shot (from a corner kick taken by Sean Longstaff) that landed the ball directly into the net, going past West Ham’s defence of Alphonse Aréola. In the last 4 minutes, West Ham scored a goal when substitute Mateus Fernandes headed the ball in a clinical goal for the visitors. Despite the final stressful moments, Leeds maintained their lead in the game and claimed the winning title. With the victory, Leeds were moved up to 13th in the table ahead of the rest of the weekend’s action. West Ham, meanwhile, remains in the relegation zone on four points.

Highlights of the Game

  • The first game of the week started off with intense energy that kept the pitch at a fast pace until the very end, though very few clear-cut chances were created in the period that followed the first goal.
  • The opening goals came from Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon for Leeds in the most clinical format that baffled the opponents. Aaronson scored a goal from very close to the goalpost.
  • Later, Rodon scored another goal with a header after Sean Longstaff sent in a good corner kick. The goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola, couldn’t defend this attack.
  • The final four minutes of the match became stressful when West Ham’s substitute Mateus Fernandes scored a smooth goal with a header. However, Leeds successfully maintained their lead and won the match.

It is up to us to tell the players to play their game, try to ignore [outside noise] and focus on what is happening on the pitch.”

Match Summary

Bruno Guimaraes struck a 90th-minute winner to seal Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Fulham at St James’ Park. With Jacob Murphy’s opening, Newcastle got early domination in the field with a score of 1-0 against Fulham. Later on, Sasa Lukic’s header equalized the game after the break. Just as the match seemed headed for a draw for the longest time, Guimaraes reacted quickly and creatively to get the ball at the back of the net and snatched back their lead against Fulham once again. The result moves Newcastle up to 11th on 12 points, while Fulham sit 16th, four points behind.

Highlights of the Game

  • Fulham survived two early attacks within 6 minutes into the game as the ball had hit the goalpost instead of hitting the net. First, when Nick Woltemade missed from very close after Dan Burn set him up, and then when Jacob Murphy’s powerful shot hit the other post from a difficult angle.
  • Alex Iwobi (Fulham) is shown the yellow card in the 66’.
  • Newcastle finally scored after benefiting from Calvin Bassey’s error.  Jacob Murphy quickly ran past the defense, took advantage of the error, and placed his shot perfectly into the far corner of the net from the right side of the box.
  • Adama Traore fired wide for Fulham, and goalkeeper Bernd Leno denied Murphy one-on-one to keep the score 1-0 at halftime.
  • Fulham looked sharper after the restart — Kevin’s cross was smashed against the bar by Raul Jimenez before Sasa Lukic nodded in the rebound.
  • Newcastle pushed hard for the winner as Guimaraes missed a header, Sessegnon made a crucial block, and Leno stopped Tonali’s volley.
  • In the final minute, Leno spilled Osula’s shot, and Guimaraes reacted quickly to slot in the decisive goal.

Managerial Quotes

Newcastle United (Eddie Howe)
“Late goals don’t just affect the game you’ve won, they affect mood and belief going forward.”

Analytical note:
Howe reflected on the late decisive goal by Guimaraes and subtly instructed the players that relying on such late goals won’t get them the win each time. They have to have the rhythm throughout the game.

Fulham (Marco Silva)
“Difficult game, as you expect coming here to St James Park, the team is full of motivation after the good win and the good game they played last Tuesday [against Benfica], and the reality that we knew that always the beginning of the games here, they are always very tough.”

Analytical note:
Silva labelled the encounter and this particular venue as expected to hold a negative experience for his team. He also acknowledged the opponent’s strong motivation coming off a recent good win and performance against Benfica, implying Fulham faced a confident opponent.

Managerial Quotes

Manchester United (Ruben Amorim)
I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United. It means a lot today, but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot. It’s three points, and it’s a good victory. We had some luck, but we fought for every ball. We lost our composure a little bit in the second half. But the most important thing, the spirit was there. And that is the beginning of everything. Sometimes you play more with the ball, and other days you play without the ball. But if you have the spirit, you can win any game.”

Analytical note:
Amorim kept a realistic and well-grounded stance in such a victorious outcome of the match while emphasizing the fact that while today’s victory was emotionally significant, it’s still just another three points in the league. This remark also highlights how the coach decided to be humble rather than arrogant on this spectacular win and how he is focused on maintaining consistency in performance rather than celebration. He acknowledged moments of luck and a loss of control in the second half but credited the team’s fighting spirit as the key factor behind the win.

Brighton and Hove Albion (Fabian Hürzeler)
In the end, it is about execution, and our execution wasn’t right today. We made too many easy mistakes, and we have to start in training, take every pass and every touch seriously. We have to improve.”

Analytical note:
Brighton’s coach indicated that the team’s main problem was poor execution rather than a question about their effort or strategy. Making
easy mistakes points to the lack of focus on fundamental actions like passing and controlling the ball. He emphasized that his team needs to take every pass and touch seriously. They need disciplined training and attention to detail. He also took time to remind his team members about the accountability of their performances and the importance of improving internal consistency to perform better in future games.

Managerial Quotes

Brentford (Keith Andrews)
We knew it would be a difficult game, so we’re really, really pleased with how we showed our personality and character and the resilience in the group. It’s twice in a row we’ve had a disappointment just before half-time [conceding], but how we started in the second half was excellent.

Analytical note:
Keith remarked in his closing words how satisfied he is with the performance of his players. However, he applauded how his men had portrayed a good balance and resilience throughout the game, especially praising their composure in the second half despite conceding the goal.

Liverpool (Arne Slot)
Disappointing result and a disappointing performance as well today. Conceding three goals is far too much if you want to win a game of football. The first one was a set-piece. Second is a counter-attack, which is one of the things [Brentford] are really good at. We didn’t defend that at all. To be in the game at half-time because we scored and in the second half, the penalty made it impossible to get a result today.”

Analytical note:
The speaker is saying it was a frustrating day for the team. Conceding three goals shows they made too many defensive mistakes. Brentford scored from a set-piece and a counter-attack, two things they are very good at. The penalty in the second half made it almost impossible to come back. It shows the team needs to stay more alert and defend better in crucial moments.

Match Summary

Eberechi Eze scored his first Premier League goal for Arsenal against his former club Crystal Palace, sealing a 1-0 win at the Emirates. His first-half volley proved the difference in a game short on chances. Arsenal threatened to add more through Gabriel and Declan Rice but couldn’t convert, while Palace failed to capitalize late on. The result keeps Arsenal four points clear at the top, as Palace drop to 10th with just one point from their last three games.

Highlights of the Game

  • Jean-Philippe Mateta led Palace’s counterattacks well, using his strength to hold off Saliba and set up Daniel Muñoz, whose shot was saved by David Raya.
  • Arsenal opened the scoring in the 39th minute through Eberechi Eze, who volleyed in after a loose ball from a set piece.
  • After halftime, Arsenal kept pressing — Gabriel hit the bar, Dean Henderson denied Declan Rice’s powerful effort, and Bukayo Saka curled one wide.
  • Gabriel caused more problems with a clever pass to Leandro Trossard, but Palace cleared before Saka could finish.
  • Viktor Gyökeres later headed wide from a Rice corner, and despite missing chances, Arsenal held on for the win.

Managerial Quotes

Arsenal (Mikel Arteta)
Every week it’s an important game in this league, because of the difficulty for everybody to win matches, so be present, be in the moment, perform really well today, and earn the right to win the game.”

Analytical note:
Arteta highlighted the stressful reality of outcomes in such a demanding league. He reminded the players how each of the matches carries weight with its challenging opponents. He summed up his final remarks on the note of “earn the right to win the game,” which captures the core sporting principle: success isn’t given; it must be worked for through effort, discipline, and performance on the day.

Crystal Palace (Oliver Glasner)
“In the second half, we corrected our moments, and in my opinion, we played 30 minutes of high-quality football and created three or four chances to score… In the Premier League, you cannot lose these moments. But in the end, we concede. In the last 15 minutes with two strikers, we stopped playing, we started playing the long ball, and this is not our game. Sometimes, especially after such an emotional game or such a disappointing defeat, it’s good to look at the facts…I always look at the stats, and we have the highest xG in the Premier League. Crystal Palace, after selling Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze and bringing in Yeremy Pino and Ismaila Sarr, have the highest xG in the whole Premier League in front of City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and all these teams.”

Analytical note:
The coach admitted that his team improved in the second half, playing about 30 minutes of good football and creating several chances, but losing control in the final stages and playing long shots instead of sticking to their style led to the goal. He also switched to looking at the bright side of the picture despite this apparent defeat. He pointed out how the team’s stats tell a positive story, which is that Crystal Palace currently has the highest expected goals (xG) in the Premier League, even after the departure of the team’s key players,
Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze. His message was clear: they’re on the right track, even if the results don’t show it yet.

Managerial Quotes

Aston Villa (Unai Emery)
“We’re trying to get better. Tactically, emotionally, mentally, we are trying to get experiences – winning and sometimes losing. [We are] trying to be positive as well.”

Analytical note:
Through his closing remarks, Emery communicated the importance of learning and growing through every game. He reiterated the fact that progress comes from both wins and losses and wants the team to keep improving in all areas of tactics, emotions, and mindset.

Manchester City (Pep Guardiola)
In these years, we have found a way to win games, but we struggled a bit, and we have to find a way. It is my job to find a solution. The dynamic changes by winning games. When a team is better, you have to recognise it.”

Analytical note:
The coach admitted how his team has been struggling and took it upon himself to find a fix. He protected his players from spiraling into negativity after their current loss; he understands that the team had gotten comfortable with achieving distinguishing wins earlier in the season. He encouraged the players to revise their strategies according to the opponents.

Managerial Quotes

Bournemouth (Andoni Iraola)
It was a great result. We knew we were facing a very good team on a very good run. To score first was key. Most of the last games they have been winning from the first half. The goal at the beginning helped us and made the game look better for us.”

Analytical note:
Frank reiterated what the Spurs crowd at the stadium felt. Focusing on how his players had started strong, Frank refused to dwell on the negative aspect of not winning the game; instead, he acknowledged the potential of his players. He finalized his remarks with a note on self-reflection for the team by saying that they “
should and could have done better”.

Nottingham Forest (Sean Dyche)
To come back as the manager is super pleasing, and to stand there and absorb it. I’ve learnt in life that sometimes you have to slow your thinking down and take it in.

Analytical note:
Dyche, who replaced Ange Postecoglou earlier this week as Forest’s third permanent manager this season after Nuno Espirito Santo and Postecoglou, revealed in his closing words that he will analyze the team’s performance with these experiences instead of rushing through the emotions. His comment about slowing down shows how it’s important to pause, reflect, and have a self-aware attitude towards football.

Managerial Quotes

Wolverhampton Wanderers (Vítor Pereira)
We understand the frustration of the people and supporters, but what I must say is that if we fight united with them, we can win games and compete and achieve our targets – without them, it is impossible.

He further added:

Two months ago, they sang my name, because together with the work we did last season, we are competing in the Premier League and not the Championship. Now they sing my name to sack me.

Analytical note:
The coach remarked in his final words that he understands why the fans are frustrated, and he believes that his team can only win and reach its goals if everyone stays united. He also highlighted how quickly things change, as fans were praising him in the last season, and now they want him gone. His words show how emotional football can be and how important it is for everyone to stick together through good and bad times.

Burnley (Scott Parker)
The game started incredibly for us with some huge quality in how we play. The Premier League can do that to you sometimes, and we were disappointed to come in 2-2 at half-time. At the end, a bit of quality gets us the winner. An incredible finish from Lyle and the assist from Hannibal – the weight of the pass and detail.”

Analytical note:
Parker sounded proud of how his team had started the game, saying they played with real quality early on. He admitted it was frustrating to be (2-2) at halftime, but that’s how unpredictable the Premier League can be. He summed up his remarks, acknowledging the unexpected winning goal, praising Lyle’s great finish, and Hannibal’s perfect pass that made the difference on the scoreboard.

We can’t change the players we’ve got, so we’ll keep practising. The goals will come.”
